Calvin S. Hall and Robert Van de Castle (The Content Analysis of Dreams, 1966) included sexual interactions among the basic categories of their coding system, alongside friendly and aggressive ones, and their normative data show them as content present in a minority yet perfectly normal share of dreams. Sigmund Freud (The Interpretation of Dreams, 1900) read them in the key of desire, although even in his framework desire appears transformed and rarely points literally at the person in the dream. The most prudent current reading: dream sex usually speaks of intimacy, of the need for closeness, or of interest in qualities of that person you would like to take on, and dreaming it about someone specific neither proves a real attraction on your part nor says anything at all about what that person feels for you.
